New Design Shakes Things Up

If you notice something new about the site, it got a facelift. It feels like going from a Chevy to a Lexus for me. If you have any comments or find broken links, drop me a line. I hope that the site is easier to navigate, loads more quickly, and looks better.

Parkerfest '01: Much Fun

Parkerfest stretched to three days this year, and it was a great time. Read about it by clicking here.

We were joined by some VIPs for 2001: Mrs. Parker's great nieces. They brought some family scrapbook letters that knocked us all out. Also in attendance was Stu Silverstein, the editor of "Not Much Fun: The Lost Poems of Dorothy Parker." We spent time with him talking about this great book.

Parkerfest 2001 Reservations Open

The Dorothy Parker Society of New York is taking reservations for the third annual Parkerfest, to be held Aug. 10-12 in New York.

We all know its going to be HOT in the city this weekend! Then what better reason than to slip into a chilly old speak on Friday Night? Or have lunch at the real old Round Table on Saturday afternoon? The walking tour on Sunday is going to be warm, but when you're going to end up sipping cocktails on the end of the tour, isn't that worth it?

The schedule:

Friday, Aug. 10, 8 p.m. to midnight — Speakeasy Night at Flute (205 W. 54th). Cost: Cash Bar. Come dressed in Roaring Twenties attire for cocktails in the former Club Intime, where Mrs. Parker and Co. once held court. There's no cover charge. You pay only for your drinks. Don't forget to get that Prohibition look going on. You must RSVP to get on the list and get your password.

Saturday, Aug. 11, 1 p.m. — Round Table Luncheon at the Algonquin Hotel. Cost: ala carte. Here's your chance to have lunch at the spot where the Round Table once met. You will be eating in the same place as Mrs. Parker, Robert Benchley, Alec Woollcott, Ring Lardner, Edna Ferber and others. In addition, there will be a Question-Answer session with Stuart Y. Silverstein, editor of Not Much Fun: The Lost Poems of Dorothy Parker (Scribner's) on Saturday, following the luncheon. (Read an interview with Mr. Silverstein here.)

Sunday, Aug. 12, 1 p.m. — Walking Tour of Dorothy Parker's New York. Cost: $20 per person. This tour of the Upper West Side will visit many of Mrs. Parker's former homes. Meet at Riverside Park, West 72nd Street and Riverside Drive entrance, at 1 p.m. We're going to about 10 locations, and then for a drink. (Bring a bottle of water, heat advisory!)
