    Real Audio samples of Dottie

There are 20 new Parker audio clips on the Dot Audio page. Some of the all-time favorites now included here are Coda, Bohemia, They Part, Tombstones in the Starlight, The False Friends and Partial Comfort. It was a lot of fun to add these Real Audio samples of Dottie reading her work. As far as I can tell, this is the only place on the Web with this material. Thanks to my friends for sending me the tapes. Enjoy!

    Books and Things

A used book vendor on Columbus and W. 68th Street was where I found the excellent book "21" about the famous bar/restaurant, The "21" Club. There is photo of Dottie and husband Alan Campbell together that I've never come across before. The book is helpful in my current research into Parker's watering holes. I'm compiling a list of Dottie's favorite theaters and bars, which is for the next stage of Dot City. Another great book I've been reading is Guide to New York City Landmarks (Preservation Press). I'm no architecture student, but I'm learning a lot about old New York that will make its way onto the Dot City site...special thanks goes to David Thompson, who e-mailed me a scan of a 1943 Parker photo by George Platt Lynes. Awesome! I put it on the Links Page, which was in serious need of artwork anyway.

    Parker and Kidman

Are there 'six degrees of separation' between Dorothy Parker and Nicole Kidman? Nope. One. Parker and Kidman have a connection to the Cort Theatre, all part of my new page about the Biltmore Theatre. The rundown theater is part of Parker's Broadway connection to Dot City.

[PHOTO OF JJL]It has been five years since she starred in Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, but Jennifer Jason Leigh is back to the Dorothy Parker look. In the new (Feb.) issue of Paper magazine, she is sporting the full-on Parker bangs and vintage dresses.

JJL is now on Broadway in Cabaret, and she says in the interview she is a fan of Apple computers, her dogs, and books. Of playing Dottie, Leigh tells Paper: "There's something about being able to be that sad and being afraid to hide it and be amused by it that I really loved." Pick up Paper for a terrific interview and some excellent photos. And don't forget, JJL celebrates a birthday on Friday (Feb. 5). Click here for a larger image of the JJL cover.
